Today I have a review of The Iron King by Julie Kawaga. This is the first book in the Iron Fey Series, a YA Fantasy. This is an older series that started in 2010 but it is one I am so glad I have started.

Meghan Chase has a secret destiny; one she could never have imagined.
Something has always felt slightly off in Meghan's life, ever since her father disappeared before her eyes when she was six. She has never quite fit in at school or at home.
When a dark stranger begins watching her from afar, and her prankster best friend becomes strangely protective of her, Meghan senses that everything she's known is about to change.
But she could never have guessed the truth - that she is the daughter of a mythical faery king and is a pawn in a deadly war. Now Meghan will learn just how far she'll go to save someone she cares about, to stop a mysterious evil, no faery creature dare face; and to find love with a young prince who might rather see her dead than let her touch his icy heart.

The Iron King is a book I have had on my TBR since I started blogging back in 2011. Recently I have been reading a lot of new adult/adult romance and I just needed a bit of YA in my life and I especially needed something not of this world. So I decided to pick up The Iron King. The thing about my reading tastes is I don't tend to read fantasy books, one of the only ones I can remember reading is The Winners Curse by Marie Rutkoski which I did enjoy. So I went into The Iron King unsure how I would get on with it.
I am happy to say I really enjoyed The Iron King giving it 3.5*. I think it helped that this book started in the real world and then went into the Nevernever, the world in the series. It helped me feel that this wasn't pure fantasy and I didn't feel confused or out of my depth. Having not read much or felt comfortable reading fantasy this really helped.
I really liked a lot of the characters, there where so many interesting characters to explore. Meghan was our main leading lady and I liked her as a character, I liked seeing her growth though out the story. I also liked that we are learning about the world of Nevernever and its rules along with Meghan. I also liked both Ash and Puck, the love interests. From reading it I can tell this is going to be a love triangle so if that is something you don't like be aware of it. But I definitely feel Meghan knows who she want's I don't think Meghan leads one on more than the other.
The Iron King is based on A Midsummers Night Dreams by Shakesphere, having not read the play I can't tell you how much is based on it but having not read it I didn't feel out of my depth. The "creature" of this series is Fey and if you know me you know I don't really get on with Fey and Mermaids they are creatures that I never really like in books but I loved the Fey in this book and all the other creatures you meet. Especially Grimalkin, a talking cat that really reminded me of the cat from Alice in Wonderland.
The world of the Nevernever was amazing I could picture it so vividly which says a lot about Julie Kawaga's writing. I loved her writing and descriptions of everything really made me feel like I was there.
The Iron King is a fast paced, edge of your seat read and the plot was like a roller coaster you jump on it and keep going. I loved the use of technology in this book, I think talking a bit too much about it would give some things away but all I can say is I definitely get what the author is trying to say and when I have read the series I want to do a spoiler talk about this series.
Overall I really enjoyed The Iron King and can't wait to start the next book.
It seems I had a lot to say about The Iron King. If you managed to read this far, your awesome. Have you read this series? Thoughts?
I really enjoyed this series! I absolutely Adore Puck! Great review :)
