I still get tears when I think of Black Beauty and Merrylegs in the pasture after all was said and done. I still have that same book, old and ragged, on my shelf. Many may not consider it a children's book, and I was probably ten or eleven when I read it, but I could identify with Scout so well. The book is so amazing and affirmed so many of the things I was discovering about people and life - both the good and the bad.
