Dream Boy Blog Tour: Annabelles, Likes & Dislikes & #Giveaway

Blurb:

If dreams can come true…then so can nightmares

One night Annabelle dreams of the perfect boy: tall and handsome with impossible blue eyes. Then, just as suddenly as he appeared, he’s gone…until he walks into her science class the next day. Perfect and REAL. The boy of her dreams. And when he brushes past her, he whispers “Annabelle.” Suddenly, Annabelle’s got the perfect boyfriend and a date to homecoming. Her life is like a dream come true...until her dreams stop and the nightmares begin.

Guest Post- Annabelles Likes & Dislikes

3 Things Annabelle Dislikes

1.      Her hometown.

Annabelle is tired of the smallness and closeness and slowness of her small town (the fictional “Chilton,” set in the New River Valley of southwestern Virginia).

In Annabelle's words:

Time goes slower in Chilton than anywhere else on earth. It should be the town motto: Two years in Chilton is eternity.

2.      Stephanie Gonzales.

As a writer, I quite like Stephanie Gonzales. She's uber-gorgeous, full of her own sense of self, and has a wicked ability to zero in on someone's emotional bruises for no other reason than to firmly press them—all while pretending to be administering first aid. Definitely someone I'd like to spend more time with on the page.

Annabelle, however, disagrees. In her words:

With her sleek black hair and almond eyes, she looks like Cleopatra, accessorized with pompoms instead of an asp. She moved here at the beginning of last year, and she’s ruled our class with a golden fist ever since.

There are some advantages to being noticed by Stephanie Gonzales, but there are more advantages to being ignored. Luckily my friends and I are, for the most part, invisible.

3.      Chemistry (sort of).

            Here she is in class:

“X- ray crystallography captures the distinct lattice pattern of the crystal, so we can see how the electrons that surround the atoms interact with the incoming X- ray photons…”

Mr. Ernshaw might as well have been speaking Xhosa, which is the only language I know of that begins with an X. It wasn’t that I didn’t like chemistry, or even that chemistry didn’t like me. It was just…Friday. And last period. And COME ON MR. ERNSHAW CAN’T YOU GIVE US A BREAK?

 3 Things Annabelle Loves

1.      Her friends.

If I had to choose a quote that shows how important Will, Talon, and Serena are in her life, I'd pretty much end up quoting the entire book.

2.      Music.

Even though Annabelle is a talented artist, she loves the social aspect of listening to music, going out to hear bands, and dancing with her friends. We probably have my coauthor Madelyn to thank for this. You can read about her dream of being a rock star here (http://wwwburiedinbooks.blogspot.com/2014/06/blog-tour-guest-post-from-author.html).

3.      Her dreams.

Dreams are where Annabelle goes to escape the humdrum of everyday life. (And where she finds her dream boy.)

            In her words:

It seemed sometimes like sleeping had become my real job, and the waking hours—school, homework, family—well, that was just me resting up for my dreams. Which maybe wasn’t so bad, in the grand scheme of things. At least my dreams got me out of Chilton, if only for the night.

About authors Mary & Madelyn:

Mary Crockett likes turtles, licorice, and the Yankees. Madelyn Rosenberg likes cats, avocados, and the Red Sox. Luckily they both like the weirdness of dreams (and each other) enough to write novels together. The friendship has survived three moves, six kids and countless manuscript revisions. Madelyn lives just outside of Washington, D.C. Mary remains in the mountains near their hometowns in southwestern Virginia. The first time I was born, I was Emma. I was beautiful. I had everything to live for.
But I died.

Now I have been born a second time, and my previous life haunts me. Because in it I think I did something very wrong. I must find out what I did to Catherine. I must uncover the truth about Emma...

Intriguing, compelling, heartbreaking. What if your past life could shatter your future?
My Review:

"My Second Life is heartbreaking, heartracing, has an amazing lead character and the story is nothing like I have read before. I can't highly recommend this book enough!"

I loved this book. From page 1 I was hooked! My second Life is like nothing I have ever read, it has such a unique storyline! The main protagonist Ana knows that she lived a previous life as beautiful Emma. She can't get rid of her feelings of Emma’s life, of her life , of loving her mum (Emma's) and her mum (Ana's) doesn't really feel like her real mum. It's like Ana is living two life’s side by side. The present as Ana and the past as Emma.

When Ana meets Frances everything changes. She remembers Frances from her previous life as Emma and she realises that she Emma did something terrible in her past life. A girl named Catherine, her friend, died and it might have been all her fault, she might have killed her!

My Second Life was very complex and intriguing. Ana the protagonist was amazing. She is living her life as two people and all these feelings she is feeling are overwhelming and I could feel Ana's pain, heartache and confusion!

The story was really compelling as well, the mystery of Catherine was so well written . I couldn't figure out if Emma did kill Catherine, she was a child what and how could she have possibly killed someone.

Frances, Catherine's mother was a horrible woman I know she never got over the lost of her daughter but she scared me and gave me chills from the cruelty and hate pouring from her.

My Second Life is an amazing debut and is one of my favourite reads of the year so far. It has everything you would want in a great read and will keep you up reading all night. And when it is finished it will leave you questioning, is it possible we have lived previous lives and are they embedded somewhere in our DNA! Only you can answer that.

#Review: The Enemy (The Enemy #1) by Charlie Higson

They'll chase you. They'll rip you open. They'll feed on you ...When the sickness came, every parent, police officer, politician - every adult - fell ill. The lucky ones died. The others are crazed, confused and hungry. Only children under fourteen remain, and they're fighting to survive. Now there are rumours of a safe place to hide.

My Review:

I have a soft spot for Zombies, I know a strange thing to have but I do :) So when I heard about Charlie Higson's series I knew I had to pick it up!

The Enemy starts where the world is already in tatters and has been for a while, which is unique as most book series start of with everything wonderful and then chaos descends. What else is unique is Charlie Higson has created a world like none other I have read and a different take on Zombies or grownups as they are called in The Enemy. The grownups still have the classic traits of the traditional zombie but with added awesomeness!

I really enjoyed the story in The Enemy, it was fast paced, heart racing and full of detail that I could imagine I was there, fighting alongside and trying to survive with small Sam or Sophie. The opening scenes really had me hooked and immersed in the world Charlie Higson's had created.

Charlie Higson isn't afraid to write it how it is, to make the world he has created not all hearts and flowers. He has created a world where kids are fighting for survival every minute of every day, constantly on alert. And each day changing them more and more into cruel and vicious humans none better than the grownups themselves.

There is alot of characters in The Enemy and it jumps from POV to POV but after you get used to it, it is easier to follow as you are so engaged in the story. I really enjoyed that there was lots of characters, this would usually be a negative for me having so many characters as I usually  get lost but not in The Enemy. It just felt right to have all these characters.

Overall I enjoyed The Enemy. It had a great, unique storyline, engaging characters and amazing writing. I can't wait to read the next book in the series!

The Alex Effect!

*I do not own this image*
I have noticed in a few books I have read this year, a trend. An Alex trend! Two book series' I finished this year and another book series I started all had something in common about them. Not that they where awesome because they were but that the lead guys in the books were all called ALEX!

Two of my favourite series' both have an Alex as a leading man in them. There's Alex in the Touch of Death trilogy by Kelly Hashway and there's Alex in the Angel Trilogy by L.A. Weatherly! Both are amazing Alex's and both are awesome book boyfriends!

Even aliens are called Alex, this time spelt Aelyx and pronounced A-licks but to me that's Alex in english. Aelyx appears in Alienated by Melissa Landers one of my favourite reads in 2014 so far.

So there are bound to be more Alex's in many of the books everyone reads. Comment below with your favourite Alex and have you noticed any popular boys names in YA books!
