Banned Book Week Giveaway!


GIVEAWAY CLOSED


Thanks to  I am a reader not a writer & Jen from I read banned books for hosting this hop!

This hop is different from the other's as the book that each blog is giving away has either been banned or challenged, challenged "defined as a formal, written complaint, filed with a library or school requesting that materials be removed because of content or appropriateness." http://www.ala.org/

For my part in the hop I am giving you the choice of either a paperback copy of Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins or a paperback copy of Twilight by Stephanie Meyer! I will also throw a few bookmarks into the mix as well.

Both the Hunger Games and Twilight have both been challenged books in the last few years, however are still hugely popular. Twilight being one of my favourite series. You can check out a link of challenged book from the last ten years here: Link

    I'm amazed at the number of banned or challenged books, especially when I see that eg Huckleberry Finn made the list among many others were I never suspected they'd be on it. I guess the bottom line to (most) of the banned books is that they make you think ... now why would anyone want to think, right?

    I do not think books should be banned. I think people should get to decide for themselves if they want to read a book or not.

    Like most people have said, books shouldn't be banned, nor should they ever have an age rating in my opinion. A book is made of your imagination, sure the author writes it but you see it in your minds eye and whether or not how you envision it, should be up to you to decide and do - no one should tell you that you can't read this. Lol sorry for the essay there 8-)

    but awesome theme, I love this idea of rebellion ;) I'd love a copy of Twilight :)

    I really don't know why people feel it is their place to tell others what they should and shouldn't read. I understand some books are not for young readers but it should be up to their parents to keep these books out of their hands. I would like to get Hunger Games if I won.

    My view on banned books is much like Hermione's view on Umbridge banning Harry's Quibbler interview:
    "If she could have done one thing to make absolutely sure that every single person in this school will read your interview, it was banning it!"
    By banning books, it really just causes them to increase in popularity from all of the speculation, so it truly is (in my opinion) a pointless activity. Just leave them be, yeah?

    I'd love to win Twilight

    m participing because I think that it's parents choice whether the book is appropriate or not. I just check ALA's website and was suprised by the list of banned books (new - Twilight, Hunger Games, and also classics - The Great Gatsby, The Catcher in the Rye, To Kill a Mockingbird, Animal Farm..) If the book is banned because it is unsuited to age group, in my opinion it would be better to mark this book with age limit and not to mark it as banned.
    But the worst example of banning books - political reasons - it's something that needs to be changed

    my thoughts on the banned book week: it's important to remind people about the fact, that books are banned - and that quite often because of a ridiculous reason.
    we have to sharpen the awareness about that.

    I love the idea of this blog hop since I hear of it... I just don't get why people is now a days trying to shield their children from things that are completely the reality something that they will eventually see for themselfs one day...So why not at least let them see it before hand so at least to be prepared for any given time... all in all I encourage even my younger sisters to read more banned books than the ones who aren't :P

    I think banning books is not the best idea. People should be free to choose. Several of the books that are on the list I read in middle school and high school. I still love them to this day. I never found anything offensive about them? It's weird how perceptions differ...

    I choose The Hunger Games.
    I am against banning books just because someone think there inappropriate. Parents are the one that should decide if a book is too violent or sexually explicit for their children and if a kid picks up a book that is too scary why not put it down on it's own instead of not being able to read it at all. It's crazy to ban books of all things( the movies and the video games are the reason people stop reading, why not ban them).

    honestly i dont understand why so many of these books are banned or challanged. It's not like the stuff showing on tv right now is all innocent and intellectual *ahem jersey shore ahem* So i hate how they supposedly give us "freedom" rights but take away our right to read whatever we want.

    I already have all of twilight book series (and so does my younger sister, banned book FTW) so i would love to win the hunger games book#1. thanks for the giveaway!

    Books should not be banned. Of course some books are better suited for a certain age group than others but NO WAY should they EVER be banned. I want to be able to choose what I read.

    While I respect the sensitivity of some people I don't think books should be banned just because they say so. Although I do think that maybe some books should come with disclaimers or bigger age suggestions so readers know what they're getting themselves into. Actually now that I think about it I'm pretty sure my bookstore had a disclaimer on the YA shelf saying that some contain "mature subjects".

    I don't see the point of banning books, except when to keep books with clearly mature content from children's /school libraries. I think readers should have the right to take the risk of reading books themselves.

    I think it is a sad reminder- that we must always keep fighting for our freedom of speech. Are there some books out there, that I don't always agree with, of course. But that doesn't give me the right to stop you or anyone else from reading them.

    I feel I should have the choice to read what I want and draw my on conclusion on how I feel about it. I DO NOT think anyone else should have a right to ban a book.     I don't think any book should be banned. I think that an individual should make their own choice as to what they would like to read. I follow with GFC as A. Tolar and I would choose the Hunger Games. I haven't read it yet, but I really really want to.

    I am a firm believer in freedom of choice and I consider it a crime for people to be told what they and their children should and should not read. I consider myself lucky to have been able to read many of these books that are believed to be worthy of banning. Can you imagine never being allowed to read the Harry Potter series, Twilight or To Kill a Mocking Bird or even The Color Purple? What amazing reads!
