I live in Texas with my husband, son, and two cats who think they run the place. I read, write, play Texas Hold’em poker, and occasionally compete in BBQ competitions with my husband. Our team name is Outcast Cookers. I also teach in a public school.
My likes include: a wide variety of music (see my playlist for book 2 on my blog), Star Trek (My son got me a signed picture of Patrick Stewart which sits on my desk.), Star Wars, Grimm (tv series), winter (though we don’t have snow), the holiday season, coffee (especially pumpkin spice lattes this time of year, hot tea (with cream and sweetner), pizza (no anchovies though), puzzles, Edgar Allan Poe, Ray Bradbury, and JK Rowling.
My dislikes include: summer (I burn really easy and really quick even with sunscreen on), root beer, most comedy shows (did like Roseanne), being late (I hate having to rush), my weight, and the neighbor’s howling dog.
Writing
I picked up reading at a very early age. I remember taking my Black Beauty book from my mom and telling her I would read it myself because I was tired of her constantly stopping and asking me if I understood the story. I read everything I could get my hands on. By junior high school, I always had a book with me and I was starting to write stories, and I discovered poetry and started filling notebooks with poems.
My imagination was everywhere. But then I got married, had a child, and went to college to become a teacher. I took a couple of writing classes in college, but kept a tight lid on my imagination because of the course load and responsibilities I had.
After a few years of teaching, I started writing ghost stories and slowly let out my imagination. Now, even though I’m still teaching full time, I write full time in the evenings. I have so many ideas, that I’ll be busy for a long time to come.
The book— Guardian of AtalntisI’ve always like mythology. When the movie, The Lightning Thief, came out, we (the teachers) took the 8th grade class to see it. When Medusa made her appearance I started asking myself a series of “what if” questions. What if Medusa had a daughter? What would she do to protect the daughter? The questions kept going through my head for the rest of the movie. A little while later I happened to watch a tv show that talked about Atlantis and the idea of ancient aliens. Again the “what if” questions popped up, and before I knew it, the base idea for Guardian of Atlantis was born.
Sixteen-year-old Raven Weir has a somewhat normal life until she receives a mysterious necklace…a necklace others are willing to kill her to get because it contains the key codes to Atlantis. Now she finds she’s the only one standing between Atlantis and those who want to use the power hidden there to take over the world.
And Zeus is at the head of that line.
On top of worrying about social acceptance at school, Raven has to get control of her growing powers before she harms someone. And it doesn’t help that the alpha Hellhound at school is attracted to her while members of his pack are trying to kill her. And then there’s the whole biological parent issue. Finding out you’re adopted is huge, but discovering you’re actually the daughter of Medusa and Poseidon will definitely cause problems.
Will Raven find the inner strength she needs to survive?
Will she be able to protect Atlantis?

Favorite genre and why?
I actually like a lot of different genres, but paranormal/fantasy are my favorites. The idea of other “possibilities” has always fascinated me and with the mysteries still to discover in our world, why not have someone who can shape shift, or can cast spells, or fly. The possibilities are endless.
Favorite book series and why?
Definitely the Harry Potter series.
Years ago a teacher I worked with came by my room and told me she had a book I just had to read. She said something about a relative bringing the book back form a trip to England and how the relative read it on the plane. The teacher said she loved the book and just knew I would too.
I read it and I was hooked and pulled into Harry’s story. I absolutely love the magical world which is in many ways reminiscent of Victorian England. Discovering the world of magic with Harry was so cool. I have no clue how many times I’ve reread the series.
Favorite author and why?
JK Rowling
I totally fell in love with the Harry Potter series. She created a world rich with a wide assortment of characters and made it cool not to be ordinary.
An author you would recommend.
Julie Kagawa I finished her Iron Fey series just recently and love the world she created around Megan, the main character.
I also like Beth Fantaskey because her Jekel Loves Hyde is a neat twist on the Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde story.
