Top Ten Tuesday #2 - Top 10 things I like/ dislike when it comes to romances in books

This weeks topic: Top 10 things I like/ dislike when it comes to romances in books

Romance in books is my favourite thing! I am a total sucker for romance. If a book doesn't have some romance in it I don't like it as much. Below is my top 5 things I like in romances and top 5 things I dislike in romances.

Top 5 things I like in romances

I love a love triangle and I think I may be the only one who does. However usually I love one of two of the guys and have a major fit if the girl doesn't choose who I want. Maybe I don't like love triangles :/




I like the "tortured guy" or the "issue guy" I love a guy in romances to be 3D not 2D, to have his insecurities.

I like geeky romances, the girl picking the geek, the geek winning over the jock or bad boy but in the other hand I like the jock/bad boy to fall for the geek girl.

I like friendship romances. Friends to romance seems more real.



I like insta love, depending on the genre of the book. Contemporary romances need to be real, insta love doesn't really work well in them but in a PNR a little insta love is alright,/it's usually because of some prophecy.

Top 5 things I dislike in romances

I don't like guys to be mean for just being means sake. If theres a reason, if he's the issue guy thats kinda OK but if theres no reason, I tend to want to hit him :)

I don't like when it's so obvious the main characters like each other but dance around each other for the whole bloody book a really really slow burn romance is not for me.

I don't like romances where it's all about sex. There's more to romance than that however as I am currently reading 50 Shades and loving it maybe am contradicting myself LOL.

I don't like guys who are 2D who think they are perfect and amazing and flawless. Argh!


I can't think of a fifth,  coming up with 4 dislikes was hard enough LOL.

 I have to say I found this weeks top ten hard I have never really though of what  I like and dislike in romances. I tend to just pick up the books that have similar romance feels to the other books I read not thinking oh may be I don't like that aspect of romance or I love that aspect of romance.

My Journey with The Mortal Instruments Series by Cassandra Clare

My Journey with this series has been a long one. It's a series I have been wanting to read for years but just never got around to it. When The City Of Bones movie released I thought I need to read these books. I read the first three books then left them. I went and seen the movie and loved it but just didn't come back to the books. 

In December 2014 I thought I need to finish this series so I picked them up and read all six. And now I am hitting myself , why the heck didn't I pick them up and read them all last time. These books are incredible. Cassandra Clare has built such a captivating world with characters that you fall in love with. The brillance of the story and the twists and turns will hold your attention from beginning to end. The Mortal Instruments series has some of the most intriguing, captivating and diverse characters I have read.  I love so many character's in this series including Magnus, Isabelle, Clary, Jace dam I love them all even Sebastian!

 This is just an amazing YA Urban fantasy/ PNR series if you haven't picked it up yet you must. It has vampires, werewolves, Fairies, Warlocks and of course shadowhunters!!

This week I haven't been well again, stupid germs! So bad I missed a few days of work :( On the plus side I finally finished The Mortal Instruments series. City of Heavenly Fire was epic and I can't wait to share my thoughts on the whole series this week with you all. Yes I haven't read 50 Shades Of Grey it's not my usual sort of book but for some reason I now really want to read it after seeing all the movie snippets. And in fact my sister has booked us tickets to see the movie on opening night so I will let you all know what I think of the book and movie next week. Interview: Melissa Landers & #Giveaway

I love this series by Melissa Landers and I am excited to have her on my blog today. You can check out my review of Alienated here and Invaded, book two here . 


For all the people that don't know can you tell us a bit about the series!

For those who haven't heard of this series, ALIENATED is about a high school senior named Cara Sweeney who agrees to host the nation's first alien exchange student, a total hottie named Aelyx. The two get off to a rough start, but eventually they become friends and then...much more than friends. In the sequel, INVADED, Cara travels to Aelyx's home planet, L'eihr, while he stays on Earth to help rebuild the alliance between their worlds.

Why aliens?

Why NOT aliens? They're fascinating to write about! 

I love the cover designs. They are some of my favorite! Do you have a say in the cover design? How does the process of picking a cover work?

Generally speaking, authors have very little say in their cover art, and I'm no exception. However, I think the designers at Disney did a wonderful job. I especially love the vibrancy of the ALIENATED cover. It really stands out in a sea of dark books on the shelf.  

If you had one tweet (140 characters) to encourage people to read your series what would it be?

I'd probably use the tweet I sent on release day: The ALIENATED series is here, and interplanetary relations have never been hotter!

In the eerie glow from the lantern, I sat in a ball with Slim’s long arms wrapped around me. Only our synchronized breathing and the drum of my heartbeat disturbed the silence.

 The pizza boy screamed as the TV flew upward. We ducked, and it slammed into the locked steel door. A roar like a jet-powered locomotive swept over us. Wind raged through a crack in the rattling door like the screech and cackle of a tempest-tossed witch, fluttering the lantern’s light. Slim caught the set as it dropped. The cord flopped at my feet, severed like it’d been bitten by a wild animal.

 Mr. Hawkins mumbled. Mrs. Lassiter spoke to Jesus. The Mangino’s driver sat near me, his rocking horse motion powered by gentle sobs. I forced my hand to stop shaking long enough to reach around Slim and squeeze the boy’s hand in mine. Mrs. Lassiter always said there are no atheists in foxholes. There are no strangers either.

 My heart passed the next few minutes of external silence by banging like a sledgehammer against my ribcage. Finally, Mrs. Lassiter slid past us. “Would you mind giving me a hand, young man?”
She had to be talking to Slim. The Mangino’s guy was still a sobbing mess.
“You okay?” he asked me.
I think I nodded.
At the top of the steps, the metal latch clanged. Then a grunt and a shard of light.

 The sounds repeated.
“I can’t get it open,” Slim said. “It must be jammed.”
My sledgehammer heart banged louder.
“Not jammed,” Mrs. Lassiter told him. “Blocked.”
And louder.

 Crazy thoughts and images raced through my mind. The tiny enclosure seemed to have suddenly shrunk by half. I couldn’t take it any longer. Being trapped in a tiny underground bunker that smelled of perspiration and pepperoni made me want to puke. I squeezed the pizza guy’s hand a final time and pushed to the top of the steps to wedge myself between Slim and Mrs. Lassiter. No one objected. It wouldn’t have mattered.

 I didn’t wait for three. I threw my shoulder into the metal door, and it slowly creaked upward—six inches, a foot. With both feet on the steps and our shoulders against the door, we pressed upward to provide more leverage.
“A little more,” Mrs. Lassiter said. “There.” She extended the metal bar to hold the door open. My shoulders relaxed as the brace clicked into place. I rubbed my arm and stepped into the eerie gray light.

Review

Vendetta was so good, I couldn't put it down! From the start I was hooked. We have a young girl, Sophie who has one close friend left after the rest abandoned her because of something her father had done. Then we have five hot Italian brothers move into town and the story kicks off!!

The characters

There are so many great characters in Vendetta. Sophie the protagonist is such a strong character. She deals with so much in Vendetta but she doesn't take sh*t  from no one, she see's beneath the surface of others and doesn't see the world in Black and white the way some characters do. Millie, Sophie's best friend, I loved she is so funny and girly and just the best friend a girl could have. She made me LOL several times. All I can say is the basketball scene, Girl Power! Then we have the five hot Italian Stallion brothers. Nic, is so swoon worthy he is a guy who isn't all he seems he's very loyal to his family, he's sweet, he sees everything in Black and white but you can't help loving him and feeling for him. Luca on the other hand is arrogant, scary, someone you want to punch in the face but I have to say he became my favourite out of all the brothers. I just want to hug him!! Valentino another brother is a character who really surprised me I don't want to say too much about him but I was shocked by him. Creepy Felice, the boys uncle, is creepy not much you can say about him than that! He gave me chills!

The storyline

The storyline will have you gripped!! There are so many twists and turns and how everyone interlocks is done really well and there's this really dark, real aspect to the story. There's loyalty to the highest degree, revenge, tradition and a high respect for family. I don't want to give to much away but we have, a lot of revenge happening #bloodforblood

The Romance

The Romance is swoon worthy, Sophie and Nic are the modern Romeo and Juliet torn apart by family. From two opposing families steeped in secrets and blood. You can't help cheering them on.

Overall Vendetta is a fantastic read, of family, revenge, romance and the dark side of humanity. I highly recommend this book to everyone, you won't be disappointed.
