Sunday Post #9: The longest post ever!

I haven't done a Sunday Post in a month! I have no excuse why, it is one of my favourite memes and I don't know why I haven't :(  but I am hoping to get back on track now. As you have probably noticed I haven't had a review since the 13th Febuary nearly a month ago and I can't guarantee any this month as I have been on a mega reading binge with two book series. The first being The 50 Shades Trilogy by E.L James and After Series by Anna Todd. If you have read these books you know they are super long! Like 500, 600 pages long and I am such a slow reader. I read the 50 Shades Trilogy in 8 days which is actually not too bad for me but for the last 17 days I have been reading the After Series and there super long. I am currently on After We Fell and its 834 pages. So it has put me way behind on review books,  I am hoping come the end of this month I will be back on track as I have so many great books for review. I must say I am loving the After Series and I loved the 50 Shades Trilogy I gave them all 5*. 

One thing I haven't done is post my thoughts on the 50 Shades Trilogy and the movie which I have seen. Would you like to see that? I was unsure whether to post as my blog is mainly YA and also am scared of what people will say about my opinions which I shouldn't be but am only human. Leave me a comment with your thoughts below.

New TV show obsession, Banished on BBC2.

Pirate Glossary Terms

Batten the Hatches Ships are built with hatches in the decking, leading to cargo space and crew quarters. During storms they are ‘battened’ down or secured and made waterproof. ‘Batten the hatches’ is often yelled by landlubbers pretending to be pirates. They generally have no idea what it means, but neither do those at whom it is yelled. Now that you know its definition, you are at an advantage, perhaps the first in your young life. Do try not to waste it.

Bucko One who blusters, bullies and bosses – generally an officer. Based on this description, some children might consider their mothers to be buckos, but I would not advise saying as much to her.

Davy Jones/Davy Jones’s Locker Davy Jones is the sailors’ devil. His locker is the bottom of the sea. If you happen to drown in the ocean, your remains will be locked up tight there. Isn’t that a nice thing to look forward to? For me, I mean.

The Eye of the Wind The direction from whence the wind blows – useful knowledge aboard a vessel propelled by such. Blind Bart tried to make ear of the wind a saying, but it never caught on.

Jocelyn embroidered a set of Jolly Roger napkins at school and gave them to Miss Eliza for Christmas. They were not much appreciated and never used.

Keep a Weather Eye  To watch closely. Jocelyn, sensitive to Blind Bart’s lack of vision (and because she felt bad that his ear of the wind campaign was not a success), amended the phrase to weather ear.

Discussion:Mental Health Illnesses are real!

Mental Illness is an issue that society shys away from. When you mention anything related to mental illness society cringes and ignores the topic. It's a taboo subject, an unseen illness.

Mental health Illness is

a. A state of emotional and psychological well-being in which an individual is able to use his or her cognitive and emotional capabilities, function in society, and meet the ordinary demands of everyday life.

Mental health issues is anything from OCD, Depression, Bi Polar Disorder to Bulimia. 

This year I have noticed a trend in YA Literature,it is books dealing with mental health issues and Sucide. Mental Health issues are very real and I think by books basing their stories on this particular topic it is helping to educate people even a tiny bit. It may be a story your reading but the topic is very real and someone you know may be suffering and ashamed to speak of it. It is nothing to be ashamed of but society has declared it is. Society has declared it a weakness, a topic not to be disgusted and therefore attitudes are never going to change. I think people can change their perspective if they just take their time to educate themselves. 

The word crazy, unstable, mental, gets thrown around a lot but a person with a mental illness is no crazier than you or me. 

Mental illnesses are real, they are happening and can't just be swept under the carpet.

When you are reading these stories just remember that it may be a story but the story is very real for a lot of people. 

If you are affected by anything whether it's an eating disorder or you just feel down. Talk to someone. Ask for help and don't be scared. I know thats easier said than done but you aren't crazy, you are you and everyone needs little help.

Excerpt

She gets our drinks before he comes back and once he does, I pick up my wine. “Thanks for the drink.” 

He clinks with me and takes a sip. “I didn’t mean to make you feel uncomfortable.” There’s something sad in his voice that makes me want to find an emotional salve, which I imagine would probably be some kind of chocolate peanut butter concoction. 

“It’s nothing personal, it’s just—” I start. 

“No, I get it.” His hand flip-flops a coaster between his thumbs and fingers as he stares into the line of bottles of whiskey and whatnot. “I’m Luke, by the way.” He reaches his other hand out, like we’re business partners. I go with it. 

“I’m Quinn.”
Those hands. They’re the kind of rough and wild hands that hold truths. And, like last night, I want more than the tactile glimpse the handshake gives me.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Quinn.” I love the way he says my name. With his southern accent it sways more toward the Q, the n’s are uphill.

“So, where have you been?” I ask.

He tilts his head, sort of like a puppy would do if you hide a tennis ball behind your back. 

“Ah, you mean...your whole life?”
I’m only semi-successful at stifling a girlish giggle as he watches me with playful eyes. 

“No, I mean, Sally said you’re back in town. From where?”
“So she told you all that?” he says.

All that? I’ll have to ask Sally about it later. He gulps down a significant amount of beer faster than you should outside of race-themed drinking games and wipes his mouth with the back of his hand. 

“She just said you were back.” I mirror him and take a big swig of wine that should be savored. But this is getting awkward.
