Waiting On Wednesday #41

Waiting On Wednesday is hosted by Breaking The Spine where we spotlight books we are highly anticipating.

Firsts by Laurie Elizabeth Flynn

Blurb: ( Source )

Seventeen-year-old Mercedes Ayres has an open-door policy when it comes to her bedroom, but only if the guy fulfills a specific criteria: he has to be a virgin. Mercedes lets the boys get their awkward, fumbling first times over with, and all she asks in return is that they give their girlfriends the perfect first time- the kind Mercedes never had herself.
Keeping what goes on in her bedroom a secret has been easy- so far. Her absentee mother isn’t home nearly enough to know about Mercedes’ extracurricular activities, and her uber-religious best friend, Angela, won’t even say the word “sex” until she gets married. But Mercedes doesn’t bank on Angela’s boyfriend finding out about her services and wanting a turn- or on Zach, who likes her for who she is instead of what she can do in bed.
When Mercedes’ perfect system falls apart, she has to find a way to salvage her reputation and figure out where her heart really belongs in the process. Funny, smart, and true-to-life, FIRSTS is a one-of-a-kind young adult novel about growing up.

Summary from Goodreads for Infected (Pods #2)

From the author of the award winning Unspeakable, and the best selling PODs, comes the highly anticipated sequel to PODs. A world where death stalks the unsuspecting, and this time even the PODs might not save them.

A virus nearly wiped out humankind...

Months have passed since a human infection has been reported. Survivors of the deadly pandemic have finally started to build a life in a world left devastated by plague.

Ironically, for nineteen-year-old Eva, life made more sense when she battled the deadly Infected than it does in the serenity of her new home in Rosewood. Separated from fiancé and former POD-mate, David, after an impossible ultimatum, Eva finds her life a little lonely and a lot confusing.

But as troubled as Eva’s life is, it's about to take a turn for the worse as untold dangers watch and wait for the right moment to attack…

The virus refuses to die quietly.

I can’t write without a hoodie. Yeah, I live it Texas. We all have our quirks.

I majored in accounting in college. I was required to declare a major, but I had no clue what I wanted to do, so I picked accounting because it was the first thing listed in the booklet the counselor gave me. Surprisingly, I graduated with a 4.0 GPA. Go figure.

Forget coffee. Hand over the Red Bull or Monster Khaos and no one gets hurt. Seriously, just set it down and step away. I will turn into a normal human after I guzzle my can of caffeine.

I hate to cook, but love to watch cooking shows on television.

I paint my nails weird colors just to see my husband roll his eyes and make my 9 year-old twin girls giggle. Oh, and mortify my 13 year-old son.

I’m a hopeful romantic and love swoon-worthy endings that keep the butterflies going for days, but I don’t believe a HEA always ends with the boy getting the girl. Sometimes a HEA is an ending we don’t see coming, but is still best for the characters.

I write across genres in the young adult and new adult age groups while eating way too many peanut butter M&Ms (but we’ll keep that second part just between us).

I was born and raised in Flint, Michigan, but now live in a suburb of Houston, TX with my very supportive family, a 125lb rescue “puppy” and a 12lb attack cat, also a rescue animal.

And last, (but certainly not least), I love my family with everything in me. Everything I am, is theirs. There are no words in any language known to man to describe my love for them. They are my center.

I’d love to hear from you. So drop me an email! Let’s chat. You tell me what you like in books, what you’d like to see happen in the writing community, what type of books you like to see more of…less of—I want to hear it all! So tell me, please. Because the one thing I wish I could put on my list, but I still haven’t figured out how to do, is mind-reading. But don’t tell my kids. I still have them fooled. :)

Beneath This Man is the second book in the This Man trilogy by Jodi Ellen Malpas. This series is so addictive, like nuts to squirrels and bones to dogs. I swear I couldn't put it down, it draws you in from page one and continues to the very end. My emotions went through the ringer I will tell you that, I had to take a few deep breaths though out the book.

In Beneath This man so much happens that I couldn't even keep up. Jesse and Ava together are like polar magnets repelling against each other one minute and then connected like two perfect puzzle pieces the next. There relationship is fiery, passionate, toxic and incredibly controlling but you can't help rooting for their relationship.

Jesse is like Pandora's box he holds so many secrets and lots come's out in Beneath This Man. A point in the book near the end  was so shocking I felt a little sick and confused but the ending was such a breath of fresh air and I hope the drama and the rollercoaster ride is over but I have a funny feeling it's not. Bring on the last book!

Banned Books Week Hop #Giveaway

Banned Book Week is hosted by Bookhounds & I am a reader

What is a banned book?

Banned books are books to which free access is not permitted. The practice of banning books is a form of censorship, from political, religious, moral, or (less often) commercial motives. (Source )

My thoughts on banned books

Books should never be banned!! People all around the world of all ages deserve and have the right to read what ever they want. People learn from banned books. Many books that are banned have a subject that some people find hard to read that they don't want to think about. That is OK you don't have to. We should have a choice. We are human beings we are individuals who should have the right to make there own choices. Some books are still banned today from schools and libraries. This is 2015. There's a African American president , woman have rights, why can't we READ a book.

Book: This Man
Series: This Man #1

Rating✪✪✪✪

This Man is the first in Jodi Ellen Malpas's Erotica romance trilogy. I have to start with saying this series is highly addictive. I couldn't stop reading it. After reading books by EL James and Sylvia Day this year I wanted another fix of a troubled hot man with insecurities and issues but who look's strong and together on the outside and a strong woman with a lot of hot sex and I found that in This Man.

This Man involves Ava a young successful interior designer who is called to the manor to do some work for as she thinks an old stuffy pipe smoking gentleman but that isn't who she meets. She meets the owner steaming hot and sexy Jesse and the sexual tension that radiates from both of them is off the scale but Ava is having none of it.  She just came out of a terrible relationship and doesn't have time for men...or does she?

This Man has so many twists and turns I swear I couldn't keep up. The reveal of things had me gobsmacked, the sex had me blushing and Jessie had me wanting to hit him one minute and had my pulse pounding the next.

Ava was a little whiney but she did start to grow toward the end, Jessie was a complex, hot interesting man who was a perfect blend of Christian from 50 Shades of Grey and Gideon from the Cross fire Series by Sylvia Day. Ava's friend gave the intense story a bit of humorous relief as well as Ava's own crazy antics.

Overall This Man had me turning the pages and being invested in the story so much I went and ordered the rest of the trilogy straight away. This is perfect for fans of Erotica in general and anyone who likes EL James and Sylvia Day.

Thoughts on This Man? What do you think of Erotica in general?

#Review Everything Everything by Nicola Yoon

Cover

I just have to mention this cover. It is beautiful and really caught my eye. It's one of my favourite 2015 covers.

Everything Everything by Nicola Yoon is a book I heard everyone raving about and loving, so I went into it with high expectations. And I have to say I didn't love it as much as everyone else it seems and I really wanted too. You don't want to feel like the odd one out but I have to feel what I feel. Don't get me wrong it wasn't all bad there was just something that didn't sit right with me.

The story concept was unique a girl who's allergic to everything. She has had to stay inside her whole life and is cared for by her mother and nurse. Madeline was are protagonist and she was an interesting voice. But for some reason I just couldn't connect with her as much as I hoped. I know she was secluded because of her disease and didn't have any friends but she was really annoying sometimes and it felt like she had a personality transplant half way though. I connected more with Madelines new neighbour Olly and the love interest. I found him more interesting and wanted to learn more about him and his family.

Not connecting with the protagonist in a story can really impair the story for me but thankfully the writing and the concept of the story made up for it. I really enjoyed Nicola Yoon's style of writing and this is what kept me reading. The concept of a girl not being able to leave her house,  to not have any communication with anyone but a few people was really interesting to read about but even though this concept was great it just didn't seem to go as far as I wanted it too.

Now one thing I must say is there is illustrations though out the book and I read an ebook version and they just didn't come across as good in the ebook so I would suggest getting a paperback if you what to pick up the book. * update: I just saw the book in a shop and I would highly recommend not reading the ebook, my e-arc could have just been corrupted thus impairing my enjoyment but the paper back looks stunning inside and out*

Overall the story was interesting, the writing was fantastic and even though I didn't get on with the main character it is a story that I think a lot of people will like. And it's an author I will be checking out again.

Have you read Everything Everything? What are your thoughts?

FaeBooks.co.uk presents...

a dark journey into the Light
By Josef

Genre: Adult/Erotic
Age range: 18years +
Approx. Length: 174 pages.
Publication Date: June 7, 2015.
Publisher: Fontaine Publishing Group.

Book Description:

This is a wonderfully entertaining, sometimes humorous, sometimes shocking, sometimes challenging, but always entertaining account of this man’s life. Many other men can only fantasize about what he has
experienced. Could the variety and extent of his sexual world really belong to one man? How did he keep this side of his life secret? What tiggerpoints in his life can explain his behaviour?

Excerpt
There was a leather armchair in the corner across from me, and next to it some kind
of apparatus against the wall.  I wasn’t sure what it was but it looked like something you could use to restrain someone.  It might be my first time here, but I knew where I was and had some idea of what went on.  Or at least, I thought I did.  It was like a large “X” shape and had small metal eye hooks attached at various points. It had a foreboding look, but at the same time I was excited and intrigued looking at it.  I would later learn that it’s called a St Andrews Cross, and I would come to love the view from it, with my arms and legs spread, and my naked body shackled against it.  But that would all come later, as I dived headlong into the exciting world of BDSM.  For now I felt like a country rube that had been dropped into the middle of Times Square.

There were other various loose items around the room, on shelves and hanging from the walls.  There were masks, whips and dildos.  Lots of leather.  I smiled to myself through my inebriated haze, ‘lots of leather, what did I expect?’ Even without visiting a dungeon, everyone who thinks about it has the stereotypical images of a mistress.  Tall, dressed in tight leather outfits, long leather boots, and the mandatory leather whip.  But in the end, mistresses come in all shapes and sizes and dress in all kinds of ways,
although always sexily.  They are such delicious creatures.

After a while I heard footsteps approach the door.  It opened quietly and the receptionist came into the room with my drink. "Here you are,” she said, handing me the glass.  “The mistresses won’t be long now.  Make yourself comfortable.”
I thanked her as she left the room, and drank my scotch, syphoning it through the ice she had put in the glass and drained it in a gulp.  I remember thinking it was way too much ice, and made a mental note to pass on the coke next time.  I placed the glass on the table and stood up, wondering where I’d be most comfortable, and whether I should be sitting or standing when the mistresses came in.  I decided to sit, and went to the other side of the room and sat in the armchair, next to the St Andrews cross.  The armchair was facing the door directly, and diagonally opposite.  I sat and waited.  My mind was numb with anticipation……and what the fuck was taking so long!   It was like time had gone into slow motion.  I couldn’t think anymore, wondering what was going to happen, and what it would be like, so I tried to sit quietly, and waited.

More footsteps; finally! This time when the door opened I got my first look at a Mistress

Top Ten books on my Fall TBR

Top Ten Tuesday is an original/weekly meme hosted by The broke and the bookish.

Topic: Top Ten Books On my Fall TBR

I choose 10 books that I am hoping to read this fall that I have on my book shelf.  They are books I have that released this year that I just haven't got to but I really want to. (Except one that released a while back but I just want to read it)

Night Owls  is the next book on my reading list. It sounds so good and something am pretty sure I will like. (NOTE: It's called The Anatomical shape of a heart in the U.S.) Darkmere sounds haunting and I think it will be a perfect read around Halloween.

Emmy and Oliver is one I had most anticipated this year but just haven't read it and I don't know why. It will definitely be read soon. I think I prefer the U.S. cover to the UK one above. Playlist for the dead is another one of those books I have been wanting to read for ages and it will be read this fall.

Ink and Bone is another of those books that has been sitting there looking at me, it needs to be read. Velvet is just one of those books I know am going to love, just from the synopsis.

The Last Summer of us I was supposed to read in the summer. It's a summer road trip book, so it will be a good book to read in the fall to give me some memories of summer. I read the Vampire Academy series this year and now what to get to the companion series starting with Bloodlines

Pop Girl is a book that releases in October I need to get too. And finally Lying Out Loud is one I have been meaning to read. I have it on ebook and paperback so I must really want to read it but just haven't.

Have you read any of these books? What is on your TBR this fall?
