Top Ten: Best Adult Books of 2016

This year I have decided to join in Top Ten of 2016 hosted by Dark Faerie Tales , Two Chicks On BooksFitktshun and Tales Of The Ravenous Reader.

Today's Topic:

Best ________ Of 2016 (Readers/Bloggers choice. Please fill in the blank with ONE of these topics – Villains, Contemporaries, Dual POV’s, Novellas, Adult titles, New Adult titles, Love Triangles, Couples, Bad Boys or Debuts. REMEMBER – this list MUST be from books you’ve READ in 2016)

This year has been all about adult reads for me and I have really enjoyed reading adult books. I want to mention five rather that ten as these are all series of which I read them all this year. Here are my favourite adult reads of 2016;

Lover Awakened ( Black Dagger Brotherhood #3)

Links to book one in the series: Goodreads

I discovered and fell in love with JR Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood Series this year. Its an adult urban fantasy with vampires. I love a good urban fantasy, my top two favorite book series of all time being in the Urban Fantasy genre. These books are massive, the seventh book I am currently making my way though is over 700 pages so if  you stay away from big books I would think before heading into this series. However I flew though them. My favourite out of the seven I have read so far is Lover Awakened all about Zsadist. Each book is a different characters story but still focusing on the overall main arc of the storyline. If you love vampires and a different take on vampires at that, with swoon worthy guys and great romantic relationships you will love JR Wards Black Daggerhood Brother Series.

Kane{ Slater Brothers #3)

Link to book one in the series: Goodreads

The Slater Brothers series is a new adult/adult series and each book focuses on a different Slater Brother and their romantic interests and each book still connects and deals with an under lining story arc. There are currently four full lengths and three novellas in this series all of which I read this year. My favorite brother is definitely Kane and his book was my favourite.

Gabriel's Inferno is a New Adult/Adult contemporary romance with a little Erotica thrown into the mix. Now I read this whole trilogy one after the other so I can't decide on a fave as the series merged as a whole for me. But I really enjoyed reading it as a whole. I read this on the recommendation of author E L James, my queen and I am so glad I did. Its a forbidden romance story, with historical fiction thrown in, the writing is fantastic and it's kinda whimsical in a way am not sure if that's even the right word, at the beginning I wasn't sure if I was reading a contemporary book or a magical realism story. Check out the blurb and see if you will be adding it to your TBR.

Enigmatic and sexy, Professor Gabriel Emerson is a well respected Dante specialist by day, but by night he devotes himself to an uninhibited life of pleasure. He uses his notorious good looks and sophisticated charm to gratify his every whim, but is secretly tortured by his dark past and consumed by the profound belief that he is beyond all hope of redemption.

When the sweet and innocent Julia Mitchell enrolls as his graduate student, his attraction and mysterious connection to her not only jeopardizes his career, but sends him on a journey in which his past and his present collide.

An intriguing and sinful exploration of seduction, forbidden love and redemption, "Gabriel's Inferno" is a captivating and wildly passionate tale of one man's escape from his own personal hell as he tries to earn the impossible...forgiveness and love.

This is a series I have wanted to talk about for a while but I had to build my nerves up. My sister annoyed me so much I gave in and read Fifty Shades Of Grey back in early 2015, I put it of for ages then when I picked it up I fell in love with it and needed more of the same type of books. Hence my sister suggested Tiffany Reisz. Now this series scared me. Its a adult dark contemporary romance with erotica and BDSM and if you think Fifty Shades is wild and just out there you haven't read this series yet. So what is it all about:

The series is told in two parts the first being this series The Red Years Quartet (The Adventures of Nora Sutherlin, Dominant and erotica writer and this is four books long. Let's just say Nora has some really dysfunctional relationships and the "main" love interest is not conventional and the relationships in this book are anything but tame. There is a big theme of Dominance and submissive characters, we have male/male relationships, really strange relationships it has it all but I have to say I was hooked. I fell in love with alot of the characters. I kinda understood some of the relationships and some took me a while to see but overall I loved the series as a whole, again I read these one after the other so the story kinda merged, that gets me onto the next series.

So this is the The White Years Quartet {The Adventures of Eleanor Schrieber, the submissive} and there is four books that continue the series. Now these are prequels which I don't think is a spoiler,  I would definitely recommend you read the above series first. And I actually preferred this series as it is kinda an origin story because after reading the red years you will want to know how it all begin let me tell you. Even though I did enjoy this series more I was a little disappointed with the ending as I don't think a certain characters story was wrapped up and it was one of my favourites at that so I am hoping there is another spin off series. Overall I loved this series as a whole it definitely isn't for the faint hearted, I know alot of people with read it and be like WTF but I loved it and it is a series that had to make a top ten list.

Top Ten: Best Covers in 2016

This year I have decided to join in Top Ten of 2016 hosted by Dark Faerie Tales , Two Chicks On BooksFitktshun and Tales Of The Ravenous Reader.

Today's Topic is:

Best Book Covers of 2016 (MUST be a book released in 2016. Would be best if it’s a book you’ve READ in 2016, but it’s not required)

I love a beautiful book cover. I hate to admit it but I am a person who does judge a book by its cover.

This year I didn't read many 2016 releases but I did acquire some beautiful ones that I still haven't read but I will that I want to share with you. These are in know particular order.

I still haven't read the ACOTAR series yet but I intend too in 2017. I won a signed copy if ACOMAF and I just think its so beautiful. I love the colour blue and this blue is just so pretty.

I love this cover so much I don't even think the picture does it justice. Its just so pretty! I went to a signing for this book back in early December and it was great meeting the author for the second time. I did a post on the signing which you can check out above.

This was one of my favourites reads of the year as well as one of my favourite book covers. It is just such a simple but beautiful cover. And as you can probably tell I love any books with blue on them as they look so pretty!

I won this book near the beginning of 2016 and again I still haven't read it but I really want to. Its being compared to a YA Outlander and it has time traveling whats not to love also the cover. It has blue, its shiny I love it.

BEAUTIFUL!! I love this cover it's so pretty, sadly I haven't read it but I wanted to wait to get The Tales Of Shadow Hunter Academy and read it first which I now own so this book must be read early 2017.

Another Cassandra Clare 2016 release on my list. Now I rarely like covers with people on them but for some reason I really like this one and I can't wait to dive into Simon's time at the Shadowhunter Academy.

This cover!!!! I just think its beautiful, I love the colours and the font and I can't wait to read the story which I think sounds amazing,

This cover!! I just love it. This was one of my cover buys I just brought it because of the cover and then the story ended up sounding really good. I still haven't read it but I will. {its a trend me not reading the books, I know :(

I actually think this is one of my favorite covers of the year. Its a beautiful blue and its just so so pretty. Now I haven't read this book yet but I will in January as this actually releases in the UK in January but I went ahead and brought the hard back when it released this year in the US as I don't really like the UK cover. But this story just sounds fantastic and I am so excited to read it.

When We Collided was one of my favorite reads and its one of my favorite covers of the year. Just look at it, enough said.

Honorable Mention:

What was one of your favorite 2016 covers?

Top Ten: Best Books I've Read in 2016

This year I have decided to join in Top Ten of 2016 hosted by Dark Faerie Tales , Two Chicks On BooksFitktshun and Tales Of The Ravenous Reader.

Today's Topic is :

Best Books I’ve Read in 2016 (Doesn’t have to be released in 2016, just a book I've read in 2016)

2016 was an interesting reading year for me. I read a lot of adult books, did a lot of re reads, and started and finished many series. I for some strange reason don't find it hard to narrow my lists down, I know its weird. So without further ado here is the Best Books I've Read in 2016 in know particular order.

Even though I did say in know particular order, I lied. When We Collided by Emery Lord is probably at the told of my favorite YA books read in 2016. This was my first Emery Lord book and it definitely won't be my last.

When We Collided was just beautiful. Vivi as the protagonist was just incredible and she is a character that I still think about even though I read this book back in May, and I think this is due to Emery's fantastic writing and story telling. I highly recommend you check this book out if you haven't already. Go into it completely blind and be ready to fall in love with Vivi and her journey!

Under Rose Tainted Skies by Louise Gornall was a UK 2016 debut and I say UK as Under Rose Tainted Skies doesn't release in the US until January 2017. And I am telling ya'll in the US you are in for a treat.

Under Rose Tainted Skies is another book that deals with mental health. A little quote from my review:

~Louise Gornall's Under Rose Tainted Skies, is a stunning book that portrays mental health in a realistic way while being stunningly beautiful in its portrayal. A book that makes you think and feel. ~

I read and fell in love with All The Bright Places by Jennifer Niven back at the end of 2014 and I knew then I would need everything she releases. I was so happy to receive a proof of Holding Up The Universe her most recent release back in October 2016. I read it and loved it, definitely not as much as All The Bright Places but it was it was a brilliant story none the less. Jennifer is an author that really makes you feel for the characters and really puts you in their shoes and she definitely did it with Libby and Jack in Holding Up The Universe.

This year I read a lot of book series and one I started and really enjoyed was the A Shade Of Vampire series by Bella Forrest. Now this is it feels like a million book's long. The first seven which I read involves the same characters and it's a vampire series that to be honest is just a guilty pleasure read that you can fly throw. I don't have a particular favorite from the series I just enjoyed the series as a whole. I highly recommend you check these out if you have kindle unlimited as the whole series is on there.

Book Depository * Goodreads {Linked to first book in the series}

I love a good Urban Fantasy and recently I discovered JR Ward. Why haven't I read JR Ward before? I read the first 6 books in the epic adult urban fantasy vampire series and I loved it. My favorite was definitely Lover Awakened the third book in the series. Each book is a different characters story but still focusing on the overall main arc of the storyline. If you love vampires and a different take on vampires at that, with swoon worthy guys and great romantic relationships you will love JR Wards Black Daggerhood Brother Series.

I discovered LA Casey thanks to my sister and I can't thank her enough as I fell in love with her Slater Brothers series. It's a new adult series and each book focuses on a different Slater Brother and their romantic interests and each book still connects and deals with an under lining story arc. My favorite brother is definitely Kane and his story is my favorite and makes my top ten best books list. Be ready for bad boys, hot romance, strong Irish woman and just stories to fall in love with,

Finally I fell in love with Tiffany Reisz this year again thanks to my sister. The series I read and fell in love with was both the red and white years series. Particularity the white years which was my favorite and maybe The King being my favorite of the series its so hard to choose. This is an erotica series that definitely won't suit everyone. Its definitely an erotica series that made me think a few times oh this is too much maybe I can't read this but I made it though and loved it in the end.

I am going to stick with Seven Best Books I've Read in 2016 as on Wednesday I will be doing my top ten best adult reads and alot of them will be repeated which I don't want to do. I hope you enjoyed my top seven never the less.

What was your favorite of the year?
