Review:

It was a pleasure to review Click: An Online Love Story by Lisa Becker. Lisa kindly sent me a PDF to review and I loved it. The book is based around Renee who is approaching her 30th birthday and still hasn't found the perfect man. Encouraged by her one of her best friends Mark she joins a dating website. The book is set out in email's between friends Renee and her best friends Shelly, Ashley, Mark and Renee's many online suitors.

The book was so much fun to read, I laughed, I cringed and I cheered along with Renee and her friends. Renee was a great character, a nice, pretty person who just hadn't found Mr right and been hurt before in a relationship, an easy character I think women can relate to. Her friends are just as great. Shelly is such a brilliant character, I loved her, as author Lisa puts it she is "over-sexed" she loves men and she surely gets them. It is funny when Shelly and Renee come up with names for Shelly's many men.

Ashley is Miss Judgmental she judges everyone and when she does the same thing she doesn't seem to think it's wrong, I think everyone knows someone like this in real life. She judges Shelly alot because of the way she is with men but what I love about Shelly is she couldn't give a dam he he. And finally we have anal-compulsive Mark, it's his idea for him and Renee to do web dating but it takes him months to join one as he has to research all the pros and cons of each website then after that each person that messages him, but he is such a nice person and makes up a good dynamic between the four friends.

Overall I loved the book. In my opinion its a fun, light hearted book that left me wanting more.

Author Interview: Amy Jones

Hey Amy! Thanks for taking the time out to do this interview with me. Could you tell me a little about your debut YA science fiction and fantasy novel, Soul Quest?

Soul Quest is the age old tale of good verses evil told in a modern way. It is about four human teenagers who are empowered with spirit at birth by The Great Spirit, Hala. The Spirit World is comprised of Oracles and Daevas. The Oracles are angelic in nature while the Daevas a very much demonic. In the beginning of the story the Daevas appear to have the upper hand so The Great Spirit, Hala must devise a plan to counter act the situation. This is where Liv, Laith, Brayan and Meena become entwined in the dynamics. The four human Oracles must protect human kind from the increasing dangers of the Daevas with out alerting the humans to the reality of the Spirit world. This isn't the easiest of tasks for four supernaturally powerful teenagers who are otherwise trying to live a normal every day life.

Where did you get the idea for Soul Quest?

Soul Quest was inspired by a really weird dream. My hubby is a night owl and loves to stay up late watching the History Channel. I had this dream about a little boy standing in the middle of a mirrored room. The little boy looked just like my son when he was 3 years old. He had cute chubby cheeks, curly blond ringlets and beautiful hazel green eyes. Anyway, the little boy was watching images flicker on the mirrored walls in the room. They showed images from historical disasters such as Hitler's dictatorship, Martin Luther King Jr. and Kennedy's shootings and Nine Eleven...you get the gist. Anyway, it had a major impact on me. The next day I asked my husband what he was watching on TV the night before. He said it was a special episode on the History Channel dedicated to the worst events in history. He acknowledged all of the above mentioned tragedies were a part of the episode. I suppose as a mother the dream was symbolic of the wrath of the world posing a threat against my children. Anyway, I decided to turn it into a positive thing. In this effort my little boy became Hala, the Great Spirit. Hala is a being as old as time, a spirit who resembles a child in physical form. Before I knew it, a quest for justice against evil began. Since I work with teenagers it was natural that they became the heroes in the plot. The basis of the book is good verses evil but I tried to weave into the underlying tone life is about choices, good and bad.

How has you writing journey been so far?

I have always been a lover of books. When I was in the fourth grade I had a teacher named Mrs. Roland. Every day after recess we would sit down to listen to her read a segment from a book. I recall The Goosebumps Series being one of the selections. I looked forward to this time of the day each and every day. Mrs.Roland was a very good story teller. I soon discovered that her words kindled with a little imagination, was every bit as entertaining as watching television. I'm not really sure if I ever specifically thought out loud...I'm going to be a writer one day. I think it is more likely that my love of reading and theater background gave way to the inevitability of it. I feel very blessed to have had the patience and talent to complete a written work.

Soul Quest is the first in a trilogy, how is work on the next book in the trilogy?

The Guardians of Souls is the second book in the trilogy. It is nearing completion but still requires editing and formatting measures. I'm really looking forward to publishing this book in late summer.

Soul Quest (The Soul Quest Trilogy) is a YA science fiction and fantasy novel. Is there any other genre you would like to write in or would you ever think of writing adult fiction?

I am definitely a YA fantasy nerd. More than that I am a high school teacher and my students give me a lot of inspiration for my writing. I wouldn't discount the idea of writing in a different genre of for a different audience. You never know... but at this point I do not anticipate doing so.

What sort of books do you like reading yourself? What are some of your favourite books/authors?

As you might guess, I read mostly YA fantasy genres. I have been known to enjoy a few classics (Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights) an occasional thriller ( The Da Vinci Code, The Girl Who Kicked The Hornets Nest) and a good romance read (The Notebook). My favourite author is Cassandra Clare, mother of The Mortal Instruments Series. I also highly enjoy Rick Riordan (Percy Jackson Series, Red Pyramid Series), Amanda Hocking (My Blood Approves Series, The Trylle Trilogy), Maggie Steifvater (Shiver Series), P.C. Cast (House of Night Series), Addison Moore (The Celestre Series), C.C.Hunter (Shadow Falls Series) and Michelle Zink (The Prophecy of the Sisters series).

Is there any books you are looking forward to reading, that are being released this year?

I am currently looking forward to Passion by Lauren Kate and Circle of Fire by Michelle Zink.

Finally, why should we read Soul Quest?

Soul Quest is unique. It isn't like anything else you have read. It is full of action, adventure, suspense and teen romance and it is supported by a rock solid plot. In other words, it has all the bells and whistles you are looking for. The bottom line is that it is an exciting and orginal story.

Review: True Blood: Dead Reckoning by Charlene Harris (Book 11: Sookie Stackhouse Series)

*MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS*

P.S This review is more of a rant of how much I love The Sookie Stackhouse Series!

Where do I start with this book! First off I LOVE this series of books, I think Charlene Harris is a wonderful, amazing and talented writer. I know I'm sounding WAY over the top but I can't praise this series and it's author enough!

So, I'm a True Blood fan! I loved the first season of True Blood and was encouraged by a friend to read the series. I read the first TEN books this time last year and LOVED them. Dead Reckoning is the 11th books in the series. Now, I have to admit it took me a while to get into this book for some reason, I just couldn't quite get into it but I continued with it as I loved the previous books. Halfway though I got into it and am so glad I stuck with it! There were loads of OMG moments!

*Spoilers: Some of my OMG! moments!*

*First of the "Porch Scene"! For all you True Blood fans you may have heard of the exciting "Shower Scene" between Eric and Sookie in Book 4. Well the "Porch Scene" was supposed to rival that scene but in my opinion I don't think it does but it is a WOW bit i.e. I wish I was Sookie in that scene LOL :)

*BILL!!! I just wish he would get the hint! Sookie loves ERIC, Eric loves SOOKIE, no one loves Bill!!! Seriously I know he loves Sookie but he betrayed her, end of, so move on!! I will get really annoyed if Charlene makes the characters Bill and Sookie get back together. TEAM ERIC all the way!

*The Faeries! I wouldn't trust Claude as far as I could threw him but I love Sookie's Great Uncle. I feel really sorry for him but again, you can't trust these faeries. I'm thinking we will find out what they really want with Sookie in the next book, and I don't think it will be good.

*We have had hints that Sookie's gran wasn't all sweetness and light before but now we finally know what happened between Sookie's gran and Fitan. OMG granny and fairy getting it on LOL! Mr Catailades: WTF where did that come from, he has known Sookie all her life, since she was born!! So mush more to that story which I can't wait to find out about!

MY MAJOR OMG MOMENT!!!

*Eric's God damn "marker". He's dead but I wish I could kill him again cause of what he has done. I can't believe he found a mate for Eric. All I can say is Eric needs to find a way out of it! Sookie and Eric 4Ever!!

So this kinda isn't my usual kind of review but I just had to gush about this book and the series. If you haven't read the series I advise you do, there amazing! Also if you love the TV series but haven't read the books do cause in my opinion the books are 1000X better than the TV Series!

Introducing: YA author Addison Moore (YA Feature #4)

Hey everyone! Let's welcome another new YA author to Reading Away The Days, Addison Moore! *claps hands* Addison is the author of the YA Paranormal Romance series,The Celestra Series!

Without further ado check out my interview with Addison and show her some love by commenting and checking out her books The Celestra Series.

*Title of 1st book in the series: Ethereal

*A short description of Ethereal (Book one in The Celestra Series) 

In the first book we’re introduced to Skyla Messenger who is about to figure out why she can read people’s minds when she touches them. Also, she’s got an entire faction of wayward angels out to kill her. Everyday problems, right? ;)

 *A short description of Tremble (Book two in The Celestra Series) 

In Tremble, Skyla decides the best way to utilize her newfound power of time travel is to try and go back two years and save her dad from dying in a fire. Unfortunately for Skyla things don’t pan out exactly as planned. A new character is introduced in this novel and he stirs the pot nicely.  

Addison's writing journey so far:

I’ve been writing for as long as I can remember. When I was a preteen I became attached to the library and loved reading all of the young adult books I could get my hands on. Through reading I’ve been able to live two realities, my daily life, and my books adventure. I think in the end my biggest influencers are books.

*Where did you get the idea for the Celestra series?

I had two different novels that weren’t going anywhere. One book was a stand-alone novel about a girl who sees her guardian angel and the other was a series about kids who lived on an island. Eventually I married the two concepts and the Celestra series was born.

*The art work for both the novels in the Celestra series, Ethereal and Tremble, are great! I really love the cover of Tremble. Who did the art work and are you pleased with it?

Thank you, I’m truly humbled. I actually picked out the pictures and my family helped photo shop them. I’m happy with the covers of both books, but if you can believe it, I find it more difficult to pick out covers than write the book itself!

*In the Celestra series it is based around Skyla whose bloodline may be connected to angelic creatures (Angels). How do your angels differ from the typical thoughts of angels, angelic, good, beautiful etc.

In the bible all mentions of angels are male and they have some type of military/messenger role. The twist I decided to take was the fact Skyla and the other angels in my book are Nephilim descendents (once believed to be spawn of human and angels). I like the idea of these two bloodlines mixing.

*Skyla the girl in your series has the unique ability to read minds. If you could read minds. Would you? And whose would you like to read?

LOL! How dangerous, I mean fun would that be? I would love to read my husbands mind once in a while, and perhaps my dog’s on occasion.

*There is going to be another book in the Celestra series. How is work coming along on the third book/ and when will it be released?

Book three is almost ready to go to my freelance editor. It’s coming along nicely and I’m happy to see there are many surprises in this one that I didn’t even see coming.

*Why do you write YA?

I’ve written women’s fiction, middle grades, and literary fiction, but the shoes that fit best are YA. There’s something that resonates with me about that unique time of life that was high school. There is something magical about romanticizing those last few teenage years. And trust me, I’d much rather write about them than relive them.  

*Do you have any advise for aspiring authors?

Yes! I love authors, especially hungry, passionate, ready-to-die-trying authors. I would say, write everyday. Read at least three to four books a month in the genre you want to write in. Don’t fall into the trap of not reading. Reading in your genre will motivate you, inspire you, and teach you the cadence of what a novel in that genre should feel like.

*Why should we read your series?

Toughest. Question. Ever. I would suggest my series to anyone who enjoys getting lost in a world that closely resembles the one we live in and yet resolves to be nothing like it. I like the fact that with paranormal novels in particular you can never guess what’s coming next because the possibilities are limitless. Why Celestra? Because it offers a unique brand of romance, action and humor.
