Author Interview: Paige Harbison

Hey Paige! Could you tell us a little about yourself and you writing career so far?

Not much to tell yet! My mother is a very successful author (Beth Harbison of Shoe Addicts Anonymous), so I’ve always been around writing. But it never occurred to me to follow in her footsteps until Bridget stomped her feet into my brain.

Could you tell us a little about your debut novel, Here Lies Bridget.

Bridget Duke is the uncontested ruler of her school. The meanest girl with the biggest secret insecurities. And when new girl Anna Judge arrives, things start to fall apart for Bridget: friends don't worship as attentively, teachers don't fall for her wide-eyed "who me?" look, expulsion looms ahead and the one boy she's always loved—Liam Ward—can barely even look at her anymore.

When a desperate Bridget drives too fast and crashes her car, she ends up in limbo, facing everyone she's wronged and walking a few uncomfortable miles in their shoes. Now she has only one chance to make a last impression. Though she might end up dead, she has one last shot at redemption and the chance to right the wrongs she's inflicted on the people who mean the most to her.

And Bridget's about to learn that, sometimes, saying you're sorry just isn't enough….

Where did you get the idea for Here Lies Bridget?

I originally considered writing a series based off of the seven deadly sins. It quickly evolved into just writing about a dreadful girl who suffered from several.

I love the cover of Here Lies Bridget! Who designed it and did you have much say in the process?

Here Lies Bridget

The amazing artwork team at Harlequin. I told them I didn’t want faces (I always enjoy making up my own image of characters I read about), and I wanted the same kind of sensibility as the posters for Six Feet Under, True Blood, and Dexter. Darkly, gruesomely funny.

Why should we read Here Lies Bridget?

Because it’s a book that stars the antagonist, and that’s unique. Also because I’m broke and need money to fund my chips&queso addiction.

Are you currently working on any new projects at the moment?

Yes, my second book comes out end of January. It’s called New Girl, and it’s a readaptation of Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier. Kind of a modern whodunit in a boarding school.

Paige's Book History

Favourite book as a child?
Harry Potter because, come on. They’re the best books of all time.

Favourite book as a teenager?

Still HP…but also lots of time travel romance! A Knight in Shining Armor by Jude Deveraux is awesome.

Favourite book you have read this year and why?

The Goddess Test by my fellow Harlequin Teen author Aimee Carter was super good. It was a nice read that kept me guessing. Ditto for The Betrayal of Natalie Hargrove.

A book that has taught you a lesson and why?

Harry Potter taught me, as a writer, to go wild and not feel restricted by what I know or what others do.

A book you would recommend to my followers to read and why?

The Goddess Test and The Betrayal of Natalie Hargrove, because I’m in the mood for them still. The latter is about a bitchy girl, and has a similar writing style to me! =)
