YA Feature: Sophie Davis

The Author: Sophie Davis

A little bit about me…I live and work in Washington, D.C. I do have a day job with the Government, but I spend every spare moment writing! In school I studied science, and pull some of my ideas from classes that I took and internships that I had.

Writing

I have enjoyed writing for as long as I can remember. I was about twelve when I started writing poetry, but it wasn’t until after college that I attempted a novel. My first few tries still remained unfinished, however. I had what I thought was a great idea, but when I started writing realized that it made no sense! One day I might go back and see if I can salvage some of the better plot points!

The Book: The Talented Saga

Talented (Talented Saga, #1)

When Talia Lyons was just a child, her parents were murdered before her eyes. Offered a choice between accepting their fate and exacting revenge, Talia trains to become one of the countrys deadliest assassins in order to kill the man responsible for their deaths: Ian Crane. Luckily, Talia was born with a gift- the ability to read and influence the minds of others. At sixteen, Talia is poised to graduate from the McDonough School for the Talented, where she learned to control her abilities. Now there is only one obstacle standing between her and the retribution she craves... Talia, herself.

Her greatest asset may also be her undoing; while a formidable weapon in the field, Talia
s talents prevent her from both shutting off the mental connection she shares with her questionable boyfriend and blocking out the thoughts of a beguiling fellow recruit. But Talia cant afford to have the feelings and distractions of a normal teenage girl, when her life is far from normal.

She must regain the single-minded determination that has brought her this far, or it may cost Talia her life when she finally faces Crane. And even after being molded in to a weapon of war, she
ll still have to find the strength it takes to pull the trigger.

If James Bond and Sookie Stackhouse had a love child with a yearning for vengeance, her story would be TALENTED: an adventure about powerful teenagers who arent afraid to embrace their fears and fight for what they believe in.

Can you describe your protangnist Talia in less than 140 characters?

Hmmm… Talia is determined, but frequently suffers from self-doubt. She is independent but trusting – a little too trusting at times.

If you could encourage anyone to pick up The Talented Saga what would you say?

Imagine that 007 hooked up with Sookie Stackhouse, their child’s story would be Talented.

Bookie Questions:

Favourite genre and why?

I am a mystery/thriller buff at heart. I love trying to figure out who did it before the end of the book! Nothing keeps me reading into the wee hours of the night like a great mystery/thriller.

Favourite YA author and why?

Wow, this is a hard one. Currently, my favourite YA author is probably Rachel Vincent. I am a HUGE fan of the Soul Screamers series, and cannot wait to read the final book in the series. I am also a big fan of Richelle Mead (Vampire Academy and Bloodlines Series), Cassandra Clare (Clockwork Series), and Holly Black (Curse Worker series).

Debut author/ upcoming author we should check out?
Hmmm, well I am so busy that I am generally behind the curve on new books. I usually don’t get around to reading a series until the few books are out. But I did catch an article about Joelle Charbonneau’s The Testing, and it sounds awesome!

A book series you love and why?

Just one? Well, a series that I have recently gotten into is Kathy Reichs Virals. The Goonies-type feel of the books made me fall in love. I like the action/adventure story with a paranormal twist.
