Today I am happy to bring you an excerpt from North Pole High: A Rebel Without A Claus by
Candace Jane Kringle! This sounds like a great read as the hoildays are just around the conor! 73 days to Christmas :)
Book Excerpt from North Pole Hight: A Rebel Without A Claus:
We emerged in the clearing on the other side of the forest. I skidded the snow scooter to a clean, slow stop and we dismounted under the brilliant dancing colors of the aurora borealis
—the Northern Lights. Indescribable waves of emerald light beams swirled and crashed over our heads. Magnetic currents pulsed through our spines.
The magic took even Rudy’s breath away. “What is this place?”
“Wait, we’
re not there yet.”
I tugged his hand and ran with him up a small hill, to a level plain as big as a fishball field. I used the stars to guide me to the exact spot I was looking for. About a dozen more steps, then one Neil Armstrong leap. We had arrived.
“You mean…?” He let it sink in a minute, then stood closer to me, close enough to dance, and surveyed the dazzling show in the sky. Polaris, the bright and mighty North Star, lit our faces like an intense spotlight from hundreds of light years directly overhead.
“True North,” I told him. “The physical, geographical North Pole.”
“The earth’
s axis of rotation. I get it.”
“You know what else?” I said. He shook his head. I spun him around as if we were playing Pin the Tail on the Woolly Mammoth. “From right here, no matter what direction you look, you’
re always facing south. Isn’t that weird?”
He laughed and completed the circle on his own power, taking in the infinite souths before him. Then he planted his boots on either side of mine and faced me, standing closer than he’d ever been. I trembled. Our noses were almost touching. He looked deep into my eyes and said, “There’s only one direction I want to look.”
